Minutes after Yale polished off archrival Harvard on Saturday to complete its first ECAC Hockey sweep in two months, the magnitude of the weekend hit senior goaltender Billy Blase like a slap shot off the facemask.

When the handshakes were finished, and the Bulldogs had acknowledged the cheering capacity crowd at Ingalls Rink with their traditional stick salute, Blase paused to absorb the moment.

He skated toward one corner of the arena to thank the Yale band with raised stick. He then made his way to the opposite side of the arena and gave a small wave to the student section. Like a theater audience paying tribute to the star of the production, the Ingalls crowd roared for Blase, the all-but-forgotten goalie who beat Dartmouth in relief Friday to earn his first start in over a year the next night.
