A New Haven Winter Classic? Bowl Idea Frozen for Now

It all began with “The Cold War” back in October 2001, when Michigan State and Michigan played in front of a record 74,544 at Spartan Stadium in East Lansing, Mich.

Since then, the allure of outdoor hockey and massive crowds at historic stadiums has become quite the successful gimmick.

Over the past few years, college and professional games have been played at Lambeau Field, Wrigley Field and even Moscow’s Red Square.
