Christopher Higgins: Live from Bern
The following blog, written by former Yale standout Chris Higgins, appeared April 29 on the Montreal Canadiens Web site.
It’s been a crazy few days. I took a flight out on Sunday
at four from Montreal and arrived in Munich at 4:30 AM local time.
Since I had a layover of five hours, I walked around the airport
for a bit and tried to talk to this German girl but she only knew
how to say "McDonald’s" and "Jack Bauer." I said goodbye and
was off to Bern.
The pool the U.S. is in plays in Bern, which I’ve been told
is about an hour and a half from Zurich. I’ve never been
anywhere in Switzerland before but the country is beyond gorgeous.
Probably the greenest grass and trees I’ve ever seen and the
backdrop of the Alps is breathtaking. The city seems to have an
amazing old-world charm. I look forward to walking around the city
and getting a better feel for the people and culture.
I had my first practice Tuesday afternoon and after two rough
drills for me, Ron Wilson skated over and said "It’s a good
thing you’re not playing Wednesday against Sweden."
(I’m not allowed to play until Thursday due to roster rules.)
