When Yale University and the University of Vermont last met in a
men’s hockey game, the Catamounts were lame-duck members of
the ECAC Hockey League under the direction of second-year coach
Kevin Sneddon and on the rebound from several losing seasons.
The Bulldogs were still guided by 30-year head coach Tim Taylor
and at the tail end of a 5-25-2 season. Two of those losses that
year — 2004-05 — were to the Catamounts, 7-1 in
Burlington and 5-0 on Feb. 18, 2005, in New Haven, Conn.
The following year was Taylor’s last and the Bulldogs
finished 10-20-3. By the next fall, a former Yale goaltender had
replaced his one-time mentor and the Ivy League program began a
turnaround similar to UVM’s once Sneddon took the reins.
