Zappala to Play Overseas
CHARLOTTE, N.C. –- General manager and head coach of the
Charlotte Checkers Derek Wilkinson announced today that the team
has suspended former Yale forward Joe Zappala.
Zappala informed Wilkinson after the completion of
Wednesday’s game that he would be headed overseas to continue
his hockey career. He has been placed on the Checkers suspended
list and his rights are maintained by the club.
Zappala, 6-foot-0, 205 pounds suited up in nine games for the
Checkers this season totaling two goals and zero assists with 14
penalty minutes. He played the last two seasons with the Reading
Royals. During that time, he suited up in 115 games scoring 41
goals and 47 assists for 88 points with 200 penalty minutes.
