NEW HAVEN - The outdoor lifestyle of his native Southern California never really appealed to Billy Blase. He's not much of a surfer, isn't into beach volleyball and definitely doesn't skateboard.
Blase, born and raised in sunny Santa Monica, Calif., always preferred the chill of local hockey rinks rather than chilling out on the beaches in his hometown.
"I guess I'm an indoor kid from California," Blase said.
