Checkers Trade for Zappala

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -– Head coach and general manager of the
Charlotte Checkers Derek Wilkinson announced Friday that the team
has traded for former Yale forward Joe Zappala from the Reading
Royals in exchange for future considerations.
Zappala, 6-foot-0, 205 pounds hails from Medford, Mass. and played
the last two seasons with the Royals. During that time, he suited
up in 115 games scoring 41 goals and 47 assists for 88 points with
200 penalty minutes. Zappala is a four year product of Yale
University where he dressed in 124 collegiate games garnering 39
goals and 44 assists for 83 points with 152 penalty minutes.
Zappala has not suited up in a game this season but is expected to
make his debut with the Checkers tonight against the Augusta Lynx.
