DURHAM, N.H. — In a season which brought about a new coaching staff, Union has picked up where it left off after a long rags to riches rise up the college hockey ladder.
Despite a 2-1 loss at New Hampshire on Friday, Union's start has been strong, coming out of the weekend with a 3-1-3 record. Union actually outplayed New Hampshire for much of the game but ran into a goalie on a mission, Matt Di Girolamo, who made 37 saves in a winning effort.
In an always-changing landscape of college hockey, Union, once a team known more for its failures, has re-emerged as a team to be feared. Union has improved almost every year since hitting rock bottom in 1998-1999, going 3-26-3. Last season, the Dutchmen earned their first trip to the NCAA tournament since 1988-89, in Division III, and their 26 wins were the highest in the program's history.
