Brothers John and Wayne Simpson of Boxborough, linemates on the Union College men’s hockey team, have a faithful fan. Their father, Dr. Stephen Simpson, has already traveled to Alaska, Michigan, and Minnesota this season to watch his sons play.

Their dad, an orthopedic surgeon who coached them for many years in youth hockey, played for Jack Parker at Boston University 30 years ago. Their late grandfather, John Simpson, was the athletic director at BU from 1975 to ’84, a founder of the Hockey East Conference, and a 2000 inductee to the university’s athletic hall of fame.

Recruited out of Lawrence Academy in Groton by Union head coach Nate Leaman, the Simpson brothers are also part of a power play unit that was ranked No. 1 in the nation through last weekend.
