Boileau Honored for Academic Prowess
SCHENECTADY, NY - Senior forward Stephane
Boileau was named to the Capital One/CoSIDA Academic
All-District men's at-large second team for the second consecutive
year.
Boileau, a three-time winner of the Thomas VanArden Dukeheart
Award for highest grade point average on the team,
earned a 3.89 GPA as a Neuroscience
(pre-med)/Economics major.
He was named ECAC Hockey's Student-Athlete of the Year, the third
Union winner of the award in the last five years. Boileau was
also one of 10 finalists for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award,
and also earned a nomination for the 2011 Hockey Humanitarian
Award. Boileau has posted four goals and six assists in 26
games to move among the top 50 point-scorers in school history.
Boileau speaks every year at Schenectady-area high schools about
the importance of hockey in French-Canadian culture. He most
recently visited Burnt-Hills Ballston Lake High School, where he
spoke French with the students in class. He is a member of the
Union chapter of Active Minds, which promotes awareness and
education about mental health to fellow students on campus. He is
also the team's representative on the Union College Student-Athlete
Advisory Committee.
Boileau is a member of Omicron Delta Kappa, a National Leadership
Honors Society which recognizes exceptional college students for
community service, among other attributes. Boileau and his
teammates served Thanksgiving dinner at the Schenectady chapter of
the YMCA and participated in the Albany Center for Disability
Services telethon, which helped raise $1.96 million.
