Hutchins Signs with Stars
Former Union standout Jeff Hutchins has signed with the Dundee CCS Stars of the Elite Ice Hockey League (EIHL) for the forthcoming 2011-12 campaign, having spent the previous two seasons with Edinburgh Capitals, the team announced.
A native of Toronto, Hutchins began his overseas career in
season 2005-06, when he joined the Coventry Blaze. He has since
turned out for the Belfast Giants and Newcastle Vipers, also in the
Elite League, and had a nine-game stint with the Sheffield Steelers
before joining the Capitals.
Prior to traveling overseas, Hutchins spent time in both the
American Hockey League and East Coast Hockey League. He played
alongside Belfast Giants' head coach Doug Christiansen at Union.
Last season with Edinburgh, Hutchins was called up to the Great
Britain Squad for the World Championships in Ukraine, where he
helped the team to a silver medal.
Stars' head coach, Dan Ceman is pleased to have secured the
signature of the experienced forward and said, "In Jeff we've
signed a proven performer in this league who has scored 20 goals or
more in a season five times and will stand up for his teammates if
necessary. After talking with him I was impressed with his desire
to contribute to a winning hockey team. I think Jeff will be a very
important player for us and I'm delighted to have him on
board."
Hutchins added, 'I am really excited to be joining the Dundee CCS
Stars. I have heard nothing but good things about the organisation,
the city and their loyal fans. It's an exciting prospect to be
joining a club that has aspirations to move up in the standings and
to compete for trophies and I intend to do my part to help them
achieve that. I look forward to getting going in the new season and
to joining up with my new teammates.'
