Koenig Finds New Home in Sweden
Troja_Ljungby of Hockey Allsvenskan (Sweden) has signed former Union goaltender Trevor Koenig, a selection among the Top 50 Players in ECAC Hockey history, for the 2011-12 campaign. Koenig spent the 2010-11 season with the Storhamar Dragons (Norway).
A native of Edmonton, Alberta, Koenig appeared in 40 games with Storhamar, posting a goals-against average of 1.94 and a save percentage of .933. He registered a 3.09 goals-against average and .879 save percetage in five playoff contests.
Prior to joining Storhamar, Koenig represented the Dragons de Rouen (France) in 2009-10; the Rødovre Mighty Bulls (Denmark) in 2008-09; and the Coventry Blaze of the Elite Ice Hockey League (England) for two seasons (2006-07 and 2007-08).
In 36 games with Rødovre in 2008-09, Koenig posting a 1.97 goals-against average and a .928 save percentage.
The 1997 ECAC Hockey Goaltender of the Year and a member of the League’s All-Decade team for the 1990s, Koenig spent four seasons with the Dutchmen (1994-98), boasting a career-best marks in 1996-97: a record of 15-11-2, 2.03 goals-against average and four shutouts. He appeared in 91 career games with Union.
