SCHENECTADY -- Pretty soon, maybe even this weekend, Union goaltender Colin Stevens will play his first game at Messa Rink. His first practice, though, came a long time ago.
Stevens was about 5 years old the first time he stepped into the arena, so young that his father, Art, had to carry his gear for him. Art set his son on a bench, helped him into his pads and tied his skate laces. Stevens waddled onto the ice and played goalie.
He doesn't remember much else.
