SCHENECTADY -- As he and his Union teammates prepare for their most important weekend yet in this college hockey season, senior Adam Presizniuk also is finishing his thesis paper, a requirement to receive his degree in management and economics.
Presizniuk chose as his topic the oil sands of Alberta, Canada, because of its great relevance to his home city, Calgary. Though he may be playing hockey 2,400 miles away, Presizniuk hasn't severed his connection to western Canada -- and that's been a good thing for Union hockey.
His presence has been doubly beneficial to the Dutchmen. Not only has Presizniuk become a cornerstone player for a Union program that ranks No. 4 in the country heading into this weekend's ECAC Tournament quarterfinal series with Colgate, but he also helped establish a pipeline from western Canada to Schenectady, turning his far-off homeland into one of Union's most fertile recruiting grounds.
