SCHENECTADY — Union College’s rise to the top
of ECAC Hockey has been a meteoric one – at first look,
anyway.
The Dutchmen finished in last place just four years ago (though it
should be added that they won seven league games that season and
were 14-17-3 overall, while the three more recent last-place
finishers had three, four and four league victories). They’ve
been on a steady climb since then and were a close second in to
ECAC Hockey last year, lost only three league games this season
(17-3-2) and outlasted Yale by one point for the league’s
regular-season championship.
The Dutchmen face 12th-place Colgate in the league playoffs
quarterfinals this weekend, a best-of-three series on Friday,
Saturday and – if necessary – Sunday (all at 7) at
Messa Rink.
