Valery-Trabucco Heads to Germany
Former Union standout Mario Valery-Trabucco, who helped guide the Dutchmen to the 2010 ECAC Championship game, has joined Augsburger Panther (Germany) for the 2011-12 season, the team announced.
The 24-year-old forward played last season for TPS Turku in the Finnish SM-Liiga. In 57 games, he scored 16 goals and assisted on three tallies. In the European Trophy tournament, Valery-Trabucco was sixth-best scorer of the tournament, compiling 12 points (six goals) in 11 games.
"Mario has a lot of talent. In addition to his abilities, he has a very good shot,” said Larry Mitchell. “He had a difficult year in Finland playing under three different coaches, yet there he was exceptional for a young North American with a lot of goals. In many conversations I was able to convince me of his absolute professionalism."
Valery-Trabucco began his professional career immediately
after the conclusion of his collegiate career in 2009-10, signing
with the Adirondack Phantoms, the American Hockey League (AHL)
affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers. He played two contests with
the Phantoms.
The Montreal, Quebec native set a school record at Union with 45 points and 23 goals in 2009-10. His 59 career goals ranks first all-time on Union's Division I list and his 114 points are tied for second all-time.
Trabucco was a three-time ECAC Hockey Player of the Week and the InsideCollegeHockey.com's National Player of the Week (February 9) in 2009-10. He was a second-team All-ECAC Hockey selection.
