SCHENECTADY -- Following a successful 2010-11 campaign and an offseason marked with some big changes, the Union College Dutchmen are ready to drop the puck on a new hockey season.
First-year head coach Rick Bennett takes over the helm after National Coach of the Year Nate Leaman bolted for Providence College following a season during which Union qualified for the NCAA tournament for the first time in the school's 20-year Division I history.
The Dutchmen, who dropped a 2-0 decision in the first round of the NCAAs to eventual national champion Minnesota-Duluth, open the season Saturday night against Army at West Point.
