SCHENECTADY -- In what has been a wildly successful college hockey season for the Union College Dutchmen, an unlikely duo on the blue line has fueled the defensive unit that ranks second in the country.
For most of the season, the top pairing on defense for 11th-ranked Union (18-7-3, 10-3-1) has been the defensive-minded senior captain Brock Matheson and offensive-oriented freshman Mat Bodie.
Together, the pair leads the Dutchmen defensive corps that is allowing a mere 2.04 goals per game, trailing only the University of Wisconsin (2.00) and tied with the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
