Matheson's Pro Path Begins in Binghamton

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Binghamton Senators announced today that they have signed Union defenseman Brock Matheson to an amateur try-out contract.

Matheson, 23, recently completed his fourth season at Union College where he served as the team's co-captain.

The Gananoque, Ont. native played in 40 games this season, posting a career-high 10 points on three goals and seven assists, and finished tied for second in ECAC Hockey with a plus/minus rating of +27. In four years with the Dutchmen he scored nine goals, 16 assists in 141 games.

"We re really proud of Brock and happy that he's getting the opportunity to play at the next level,” Union head coach Nate Leaman said. “He has meant a tremendous amount to our program on and off the ice as a top defenseman and one of the best captains we've ever had at Union.”
A two-year captain, Matheson earned ECAC Hockey Best Defensive Defenseman honors, becoming just the second Union student-athlete to earn the award, and the first since Andrew Will in 1997.
