Boileau Named Finalist for Lowe's Senior CLASS Award

SCHENECTADYN.Y. – Union senior forward Stéphane Boileau has been selected as one of 10 finalists for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award, Lowe's announced today.

Boileau, who carries a 3.90 GPA in neuroscience, was a finalist for the ECAC Hockey Student-Athlete of the Year Award and made his second straight appearance on the ECAC Hockey All-Academic team. He won the Thomas Vanarden Dukehard Award for the highest GPA on the men's ice hockey team for the second consecutive season, and was named Union College's junior Student-Athlete of the Year. He was also named to the 2010 ESPN the Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-America At-Large Second Team.

Boileau speaks every year at Schenectady-area high schools about the importance of hockey in French-Canadian culture. He most recently visited Burnt-Hills Ballston Lake High School, where he spoke French with the students in class. He is a member of the Union chapter of Active Minds, which promotes awareness and education about mental health to fellow students on campus. He is also the team's representative on the Union College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

Boileau is a member of Omicron Delta Kappa, a National Leadership Honors Society which recognizes exceptional college students for community service, among other attributes. Boileau and his teammates served Thanksgiving dinner at the Schenectady chapter of the YMCA and participated in the Albany Center for Disability Services telethon on Sunday, which helped raise $1.96 million.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.

The finalists were chosen by a media committee from the list of 20 candidates announced in October. Nationwide fan voting begins immediately to determine the winner. Fans are encouraged to vote via the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award website or on the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award Facebook fan page through March 20. Fan votes will be combined with media and coaches votes to determine the winner.

Lowe's, an official Corporate Partner of the NCAA, will announce the winner April 7 at the NCAA Frozen Four® in Saint Paul, Minnesota.
