Kinkaid Experiencing the NHL
SAN JOSE – Sophomore
Union College men’s hockey goaltender Keith Kinkaid has
traded in his garnet and white jersey temporarily for the summer,
donning the colors of several NHL clubs. The Farmingville, NY
native has spent the past couple of month participating in prospect
camps for the New York Rangers, the Vancouver Canucks and,
currently, the San Jose Sharks.
The professional level camps, which do not affect a
student-athletes NCAA eligibility, are designed to give players an
example of an NHL lifestyle. The rookies and prospects are
subjected to on-ice practice and scrimmage sessions, medical and
fitness testing and meetings and seminars.
For Kinkaid, this is his second consecutive year participating
in such camps. Prior to arriving at Union, the 2009-10 ECAC Hockey
All-Rookie Team and Third Team selection, attended the Rangers and
the St. Louis Blues camps.
Kinkaid helped backstop the Dutchmen to a school-record 21
wins during the 2009-10 season and, individually, he set a program
record with 12 wins as a freshman. Kinkaid was named to the Hockey
Commissioners’ Association Honorable Rookie Mention for
November. He was a two time ECAC Hockey Goaltender of the Week
(Nov. 30 and Feb. 22) and a two time ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Week
(Nov. 16 and Dec. 7).
The Dutchmen return to the ice on Friday, Oct. 8 with a 7 p.m.
game against Sacred Heart at Messa Rink.
