The following article featuring former Union standout Mario Valery-Trabucco appeared April 3 on the Times Union Web site.

ALBANY — In the seventh minute of his first professional hockey game, Mario Valery-Trabucco took his first shot, a simple wrister that Albany River Rats goaltender Justin Peters stopped with his pad.
Second later, as he was going after the puck, Valery-Trabucco was cross-checked by Rats defenseman Tim Conboy, a seventh-year pro. There was no penalty. Rookies don’t get the benefit of such calls.
Play reverted to the other end of the ice, and Valery-Trabucco got his stick a little high on Rats forward Steven Goertzen. Valery-Trabucco, just two weeks removed from his final game at Union College, had his first visit to a pro penalty box.
