Caffaro Inks Deal with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton

WILKES-BARRE, PA -- The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins have signed Union defenseman Lane Caffaro to an amateur tryout contract, it was announced on Saturday.

Caffaro, a 2009 ECAC Hockey first-team all-League selection, led the conference defenseman during the regular season with 22 points, including 14 assists and a career-high eight goals. In conference only games, he led the defenseman with 18 points with seven goals and 11 assists. Earlier this year, Caffaro became Union's all-time leading defensive scorer, passing Reid Simonton (1992-96), who had 68 points.

A native of Slave Lake, Alberta, the senior co-captain ended his career ninth all-time on Union's scoring list with 79 points, including 23 goals and 56 assists, which is fifth all-time. Caffaro also ranks ninth on the school's all-time list with 13 power-play goals, including a career-high tying five man-advantage tallies this season. Caffaro, who was a third team selection in 2007-08, became the first Dutchmen to be named to the Coaches' and Media Preseason All-ECAC Hockey Team.
