Former Hershey Bear goaltender Kris Mayotte took some time out of his busy schedule to answer a few questions for "Stack the Pads". Kris talks about spending time with the Chicago Wolves in training camp, what he did this summer, and what his new mask will look like! He and the Johnstown Chiefs kick off their ECHL season this Saturday against Cincinnati.
Q: First off Kris, how was your summer and what did you
do in the off season?
My summer was enjoyable. A little too long for my liking
after my team in Johnstown missed out on the playoffs last season,
but I kept it simple. I spent most of my summer in Virginia
coaching goalies and working for The Goalie Academy, with a few
trips to Pittsburgh to see friends and family.
Q: You recently participated in training camp with the
Chicago Wolves. What was that experience like?
Camp with Chicago was another good experience for me and just
another opportunity to show an AHL organization what I have to
offer. Unfortunately, I was unable to make the team out of
camp, but I hope they liked what they saw and won't hesitate to
call me up if they need a goalie. Most of those camps are the
same for a free agent, you aren't going in with too high of
expectations, but hope to show well.
Q: Any idea on pads for this season? Any ideas for a
new mask design?
I will be in Vaughn V3's, all white with blacks tails through the
middle. Same design with the blocker, and I am wearing a
Bauer RX-9 catching glove.
I have plans to paint my mask this year as soon as it arrives from
Bauer. From top to bottom a silver fading to black
background. On top in the middle will be an outline of the
Pittsburgh skyline (Kris is from Pittsburgh), with a old timer
steel worker on either side pouring hot steel into the city, and
"Mayo" in chrome on the chin. Simple but something I think is
pretty unique and will look good when finished.
