Improved Goaltending will be Key for Union

When I interviewed Union men's hockey coach Nate Leaman about the 2009-10 recruiting class, one thing he kept talking about was the team’s save percentage.

The Dutchmen had a .901 save percentage last season. Only Clarkson (.897) and RPI (.892) had worse save percentages among ECAC Hockey teams. Brown, a team that won just five games last season, had a better save percentage (.911) than Union, which won 14 more games than the Bears.

"We were a .901 save percentage in our league last year, and that was well below average," Leaman said. "It's an area we know we need to improve upon."
