Christiansen Returns to Edinburgh as Player/Coach

Edinburgh Capitals are delighted to be able to announce that former Union standout Doug Christiansen will be returning as player/coach for the 2009-10 season in the Elite Ice Hockey League and will be continuing his role in charge of hockey operations.

This will be Christiansen's third season with the Capitals and he is looking to continue the hard work he has already done in making the Captials a force to be reckoned with and a competitive and successful team.

Christiansen said, "I am thrilled to be back in Edinburgh. First of all, I would like to thank Scott Neil for bringing me back for a 3rd season. He has showed great loyalty to me the last couple years through both good and bad times. I am excited to be able to return to the Capitals in 2009-2010."

"Scotland's capital has been my home for the last two seasons. The fans and people surrounding the club are second to none and they are a large part of why I am coming back. It was great to see how passionate our fans were down the stretch and seeing their loyalty at the play-off weekend."

"The last two seasons I have been fortunate to coach great teams. I am excited to be building off the best two seasons in franchise history and two consecutive playoff experiences. The foundation for success has been laid."

"As most of you know, I love challenges. This year will have the best hockey ever played at the Murrayfield. The league will be much better. Our fans know just by looking at the signings that the league is going to be much improved. The loss of Basingstoke and Manchester and the immense improvement of Hull has made the league significantly stronger from top to bottom. It will be a great challenge for me as a player and a coach this year. I am really looking forward to that."
