Past Playoff Failures Kept Hungry Dutchmen Motivated

SCHENECTADY — The Union hockey team knew all about its failures in the postseason. Eleven trips to the ECAC Hockey tournament brought heartache and misery, and an end to the season without winning a series.

But heading into the first-round series with Clarkson over the weekend, all the Dutchmen wanted to talk about was the present.

“For this team, the past is past,” Dutchmen co-captain Matt Cook said two days before Game 1. “We’re not looking at the past, right now. We’re just focusing completely on ourselves, and these next few games against Clarkson and taking care of business.”
