SCHENECTADY -- In six of the past seven years, playoff hockey has
come to Messa Rink. A season ago, the Union hockey program made
history when the Dutchmen won a playoff series for the first
time.
In the six years that Nate Leaman has been calling the shots for
Union, the Dutchmen have taken little steps on skates. This winter,
perhaps those baby steps will begin to grow. Union was picked to
finish sixth in the ECAC coaches' poll, although no one in the
league takes those prognostications all that seriously.
"Ultimately, we want to see our program take the next step and
play for our league championship at the end of the year," Leaman
said, sitting behind his desk in his second floor office at Messa
Rink. "But there are so many factors that go into getting to that
goal."
