Johnstown Adds Delforte
JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – The Johnstown Chiefs announced today that
they have signed center Torren Delforte for the 2009-10 season.
“The Chiefs feel Torren is a solid addition to our team and
we expect big things from him this season. He is a guy who competes
hard every shift and has proven he can put up numbers with a very
productive season in New Mexico last year,” Vice President
and General Manager Bill Bredin said.
As a rookie in 2008-09 with the Central Hockey League’s New
Mexico Scorpions, Delforte netted 56 points (23G, 33A) in 63 games.
He was the leading rookie scorer on the Scorpions and fourth in the
CHL. The right-handed center proved equally effective at even
strength and on special teams as he produced 16 power play points
(5G, 11A) and four (2G, 2A) while shorthanded.
A native of Shortsville, New York, Delforte stayed in his home
state to play college hockey at Union College in Schenectady. His
four-year career spanned 130 games and produced 41 points (19G,
22A). His best season came in 2005-06 with 14 points (7G, 7A) in 38
games. That season, and in 2004-05, Delforte was a teammate of Kris
Mayotte.
Delforte becomes the ninth Chief under contract for 2009-10. He
joins Jozef Sladok, Erik Felde, Matt Robinson, Sean Berkstresser,
Ryan Menei, Mike Knight, Greg Gallagher, and Kyle Bushee.
