SCHENECTADY -- Having reached the goal of earning a first-round bye in the ECAC Hockey tournament, Union embarks upon a new mission this weekend.
The fourth-seeded Dutchmen will host fifth-seeded Cornell, a team they swept during the regular season, in the best-of-three quarterfinals beginning tonight at 7 at Messa Rink. At stake is a berth in the semifinals next weekend at the Times Union Center.
In order to make it there, the Dutchmen (15-12-6) must accomplish something they have never done in 10 previous tournament appearances - win a playoff series. They are 2-19 in tournament play.
