Christiansen Reaches Agreement with Edinburgh

The Edinburgh Capitals announced that they have reached an agreement with former Union forward Doug Christiansen for the 2008/09 season in the bmibaby Elite Ice Hockey League.  Christiansen will continue his role as Director of Hockey Operations.

Scott Neil, Capitals General Manager said, "I am delighted that we could get Doug back for another season. We'll be looking to build on the success of last season and start to move the club forward."

Christiansen guided the Capitals to their most successful season in franchise history. The team qualified for the play offs and were semi finalists in the Knock-out Cup. The team was 19-19-4 after December 1st. The last 15 games saw the Capitals go 9-6 and surpass Basingstoke for the final play off position. The Capitals were defeated in the quarter finals by the League Champions, the Coventry Blaze.  On the ice, Christiansen finished second on the team in goals and 5th in points.

Christiansen had been hopeful of a return to the Capitals and commented, "I am thrilled to be coming back to Edinburgh. I am looking forward to making next season even better than 2007/08. Scott and I have had many conversations the last two months working toward this agreement. It was not always easy, but in the end, we made a commitment to one another to win in Edinburgh.

My off-season is over. I am thrilled to start working again. I have a passion about what we are trying to accomplish here in Edinburgh. I believe what Scott said in his recent blog: we have more potential than any other club in the league. It is time to build off of last season and have a consistent winner in Scotland.

Our fans deserve a winning club. I am going to work as hard as I can to get winning players to Edinburgh. I am committed to bringing silverware to Scotland's Capital.

Finally, I would like to thank the fans. Your support this season is a major reason why I decided to return. We have the most loyal fans in British Ice Hockey. I am looking forward to putting a team on the ice that you are proud of."
