Dutchmen Raise Funds for Richardson's Daughters
SCHENECTADY, NY - On November 3, the Union College men's hockey team renamed its Unsung Hero Award in honor of Scott Richardson '86, who passed away suddenly this summer. Fundraising efforts that evening raised over $3,600 to benefit the college funds of Richardson's two young daughters, Sydney and Hallie.
"It is an honor to have had someone like Scott as part of the Union Hockey program," said Head Coach Nate Leaman. "His teammates did a wonderful job setting this up, and we couldn't have made the event such a success without the help of Craig Blum, Curt Cole, Jay Grossman and Rich Preziotti. I think it speaks volumes about Scott that so many of them came back to honor him."
A plaque dedicating the renaming of the award was given both to Richardson's parents, Dave and Nancy, and to his wife, Kristen, during a first-intermission on-ice ceremony.
The silent auction raised well over $3,000, with items ranging from custom-made jewelry by iDazz to autographed jerseys and pucks. The second-period chuck-a-puck contest raised close to $500 for the girls' college funds.
The Dutchmen are back in action on Sunday, November 25, in a 5 p.m. game at Massachusetts.
