Gillies Excited to Return to Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - General manager and head coach of the Charlotte Checkers, Derek Wilkinson, announced today that former Union forward Nathan Gillies has agreed to terms with the club.

Set to return for a third season in Charlotte is Cambridge, Ontario born Gillies. The 41 points he garnered last season (17 goals, 24 assists) were his best offensive numbers as a professional. He also racked up two goals and two assists in five playoff games last year. The speedy forward says he will try to carry that momentum into another season with Charlotte, "I want to continue to progress each game. I know what is expected of me - hit, fight and score. I want to provide veteran leadership for the younger guys and set an example on and off the ice."

The Checkers enter their 15th season of play as a member of the ECHL in October 2007.  In the team's 14-year history, the Checkers have made the playoffs 10 times including three consecutive playoff appearances to date.  The Checkers will enter their third season of play at St. Lawrence Homes Home Ice at Charlotte Bobcats Arena this fall.  Season tickets are on sale now with full-season packages starting at just $399.  The Checkers are accepting deposits on all ticket packages.  For season ticket information, please call 704-342-4-ICE or visit http://www.gocheckers.com/.
