SCHENECTADY -- With the early departure of T.J. Fox to the pros, Josh Coyle seemed destined to be the go-to forward on this year's Union hockey team. That plan nearly went out with the Zamboni scraps when Coyle went down with a knee injury in the first game of the season.
The talented senior, who scored a team-leading 14 goals and 31 points last year, missed the Governor's Cup and has played in fewer than half of Union's 11 games, if you count all the lost minutes. The Dutchmen, who started the season 2-0, are 1-6-2 since.
"It really hurt my spirit, but I had to try to find a positive in that it happened in the first game of the season and I'm glad it didn't happen when we were in the playoff run," Coyle said as Union prepared for a nonconference weekend series with Providence and Northeastern of Hockey East. "It was a minor injury and it feels good now, so I'm happy it happened when it happened if it had to happen."
