Ralph Named IHL Forward of Month

Former Union forward Jason Ralph of the Bloomington PrairieThunder has been named the International Hockey League's Forward of the Month for his performance during October, league officials announced Thursday.

Ralph, the team's captain, scored two goals and added four assists for six points in four games and finished with a plus-2 rating. Ralph ranks second in the league in scoring and recorded both his goals, including the game-winner, in a 4-2 victory over Fort Wayne at U.S. Cellular Coliseum.

The 6-foot, 185-pound native of Carp, Ontario is currently riding a four-game point streak. He had one assist in the PrairieThunder's opening-season 5-1 triumph at Flint before scoring his two goals the next night.   Ralph had one assist in each of the last two games at Fort Wayne and Port Huron. The 28-year-old Ralph came to the PrairieThunder through the IHL dispersal draft during the off-season. He played for the Rockford IceHogs last season.

This marks the first time in PrairieThunder history that a player has received Player of Month honors. Defenseman Cory Laylin, goalie Derek Dolson and rookie Kyle McCullough were also nominated for Player of the Month awards from the PrairieThunder.

Other Players of the Month in the IHL for October were Fort Wayne defenseman Guy Dupuis and goalie Kevin Reiter, along with Port Huron rookie Jamie Carroll.

The PrairieThunder (2-2-0-0) returns to action Friday at 7:05 p.m. against Muskegon at U.S. Cellular Coliseum. The team travels to Flint for a 6:30 p.m. contest Saturday before returning home Sunday for a 4:05 p.m. game against Port Huron at U.S. Cellular Coliseum.
