VANCOUVER -— Never let it be said that anything was ever handed to Rich Peverley.

The newest Bruin, acquired in a trade from Atlanta with prospect Boris Valabik for Blake Wheeler and Mark Stuart last Friday, was never the type of player scouts drooled over.

A four-year player at St. Lawrence University, the 6-foot, 195-pound Peverley went undrafted. When it was time to try to make his way to the NHL in 2004, there was no NHL, as it was in the midst of a year-long work stoppage. As a result, not only could Peverley not find work in the NHL, jobs in the AHL were tough to find, too, as the big league teams stocked them with their top prospects.
