INCH A to Z: Greg Carey

The following article featuring St. Lawrence forward Greg Carey appeared August 12 on the Inside College Hockey (INCH) Web site.

INCH A-Z is designed to introduce you to some of the names you need to know more about as the season approaches. As the all-time leader in collegiate coaching victories, Ron Mason would not be one of those names. But our latest profiles carry a connection to the legendary coach. Mason is an alum of St. Lawrence, and the Saints have standout scorer Greg Carey. Mason earned most of his successful coaching reputation at Michigan State, who will count on versatile Jake Chelios this season.

We'll continue our profiles on players (and some coaches) you should get to know before the season starts.

GREG CAREY
St. Lawrence
So. | F | Hamilton, Ontario

Key Statistics: Carey had a tremendous freshman year with 23 goals, 17 assists and 40 points. He led St. Lawrence in scoring, the first freshman to achieve that since 1982. He was a six-time recipient of ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Week honors.

What He Does: Carey is one of those guys who has a knack for putting the puck in the back of the net, and he doesn’t shy away from that part of his game. When he gets an opportunity, he’s looking to fire the puck toward goal. He was a goal-scorer in junior hockey and said the difference between junior and college is that you get hit after you shoot – there’s less time and space.
