Fensel Earns Opportunity in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The Las Vegas Wranglers announced today that they have agreed to terms with former St. Lawrence defenseman Shawn Fensel for the 2011-12 season.

Fensel (5'9, 200 lbs.) split his 2010-11 season between the FHL's 1000 Islands Privateers and the CHL's Missouri Mavericks after getting called up. The 24-year-old defenseman racked up 32 points (5g, 27a) and 35 penalty minutes across 30 games, giving him a +19 rating for his time in New York.

"I've heard Las Vegas is a great place to play, and I'm looking forward to getting down there and starting the season," said Fensel. "It's always a bonus to be playing in a good atmosphere where people really enjoy coming to watch the games."

While with the Mavericks, Fensel played in 31 games with 13 points (3g, 10a) and eight penalty minutes. He also spent four seasons (2005-09) at St. Lawrence.

"Shawn Fensel is a good, young defenseman," said General Manager and Head Coach Ryan Mougenel. "He was on our radar last year and we are happy to him onboard for the upcoming season."
