Original Maverick Retiring, Not Leaving

Independence, MO — The rumors about Simon Watson’s future with the Missouri Mavericks began circulating about a month or so ago.
The original Maverick had been running the youth hockey camps at the Independence Events Center this summer and had let it be known that he would like to lend a hand in the day-to-day operations of the Central Hockey League team.
When he was announced as the team’s assistant director of hockey operations at a Friday news conference, I was pleased.
