McKenzie Rewarded for Performance
ESTERO, FL - The Florida Everblades proudly announced today that former St. Lawrence forward Mike McKenzie has been named the Reebok Hockey ECHL Rookie of the Month for December after posting 17 points in 14 games.
McKenzie tallied nine goals and added eight assists during the month of December and notched at least one point in 12 of the team's 14 games. The 24-year-old also finished the month with a plus-5 rating, three power play goals and one game-winning marker.
The native of Whitby, Ontario opened December with points in five straight games, then closed out the month with points in six straight games, four of which were multi-point games.
Overall McKenzie has 28 points (14g, 14a) in 33 games which ranks him fourth on the Everblades in scoring. Of his 28 points, 21 of them have come in his last 18 games. His point total also ranks fourth among all rookies in the ECHL and his 14 goals is tied for second in the league among rookies.
McKenzie wrapped up a four-year collegiate career last season before making his pro debut in the American Hockey League. He saw action in three games with the Albany River Rats in 2009-10 collecting one assist. Prior to that, McKenzie notched 35 points (14g, 21a) in 41 games as a senior at St. Lawrence University. During his collegiate career he posted 114 points (49g, 65a) in 144 career games.
