McKenna Named Lowell's AHL Man of Year
The Lowell Devils are proud to announce that former St. Lawrence
standout Mike McKenna has been named the team’s winner of the
American Specialty/AHL Man of the Year award for his outstanding
contributions to the Lowell community during the 2009-10
season.
Mike McKenna is a dedicated athlete who values the relationships
he has both on and off the ice. These relationships off the ice
have been developed through his repeated interaction with the
Greater Lowell community. His work with area YMCA’s and the
Boys and Girls Clubs is of particular note.
He thoroughly enjoys spending time with children and often
speaks about the importance of setting goals. Through hockey, Mike
has been able to share some of his experiences. His sense of
responsibility and genuine care has been valued by the
community.
In recognition of his efforts, McKenna will be presented with an
etched crystal trophy during an on-ice presentation prior to an
upcoming Lowell Devils home game.
McKenna is now one of 29 finalists for the AHL’s 2009-10
Yanick Dupre Memorial Award, honoring the overall American
Specialty/AHL Man of the Year. The league award is named after the
former Hershey Bears forward and AHL All-Star who died in 1997
following a 16-month battle with leukemia. The winner of the Yanick
Dupre Memorial Award will be announced by the American Hockey
League in the coming weeks.
