France Beckons Zbriger
The Montpellier Vipers (France) announced the signing of former St. Lawrence standout Mike Zbriger, who spent the 2009-10 season with the Quad City Mallards of the International Hockey League (IHL).
Zbriger recently completed his fourth professional season. In 61 games with the Mallards, Zbriger compiled 41 points, including 17 goals.
Prior to joining the Mallards, the St. Lawrence product split the 2008-09 campaign between the Central Hockey League’s (CHL) Corpus Christi Icerays and Wichita Thunder, notching 19 goals and 51 points in 62 games.
Zbriger is not a stranger to playing in Europe. In 2007-08, the Montreal, Quebec native hit the 30-goal plateau and also rang up 64 points while playing in Germany for the Weiden Blue Devils.
Zbriger spent his first pro campaign in the United Hockey League skating for three different teams. Zbriger collected 29 goals and 57 points while suiting up for the Chicago Hounds, Flint Generals and Bloomington PrairieThunder in 2006-07.
In four campaigns (2002-06) in Canton, New York, appeared in 95 games. He scored 23 goals and set up 20 goals. His top offensive campaign came as a senior when he scored 14 goals and added 12 assists in 40 games.
