Perfect Start for Saints

When the first weekend of ECAC Hockey conference play concluded, just two teams stood with unbeaten records through two games. One of them, not surprisingly, was Yale. The other, was a team that started the weekend without a victory to its credit. After a third-period surge in the conference opener against Cornell, and a solid victory over Colgate the following night, St. Lawrence had its first two victories and a share of first place with preseason league favorite Yale.

Although the Saints were 0-4-3 in their first seven games, there wasn’t any panic in the dressing room. It was a confident team that came up short in the close games, in a stretch that included three ties, an overtime loss, and a pair of losses on the road at a very good Ferris State team. The Saints opened up with two long trips, road series at Minnesota State and Ferris State.

“We had a great week of practice (leading up to the Cornell and Colgate games),” sophomore forward Kyle Flanagan said. “We just had to keep the same mindset. That’s why we played all of those non-league games, to prepare us for ECAC Hockey play. We just had to keep playing the same way. We were playing well, just knew that there were minor things that we needed to adjust.”
