In no uncertain terms, Rich Peverley was challenged.

The Thrashers forward was called out by coach Craig Ramsay two weeks ago to pick up his play. Peverley responded with points in six of the past seven games (two goals, six assists). During the stretch, he had a career-high five-game assist streak.

“I don’t think I was up to par,” Peverley said before the Thrashers departed for Tuesday’s game at Ottawa. “I wasn’t competing enough. I think it showed in my ice time. When you are not playing well ... [Ramsay] seems to be the type of coach that when you are playing well, he rewards you. I wasn’t playing well. He basically said, ‘You have to compete more. You have to be in the game more.' That’s what I’ve really tried to do that last couple weeks.”
