Petizian Headed to Alaska
ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The Alaska Aces have signed rookie goaltender Alex Petizian, a former St. Lawrence standout, to a one-year contract for the 2010-11 season.
The 23-year-old Petizian went 45-29-10 in four years at St. Lawrence (where former Aces goaltender Derek Gustafson also shined), establishing an all-time school record with a career 2.53 goals against average and a .913 save percentage. He stopped 26 of 30 shots in his professional debut for the American Hockey League's Rochester Americans last April 10 in a 5-2 loss to Syracuse. Petizian's best years at St. Lawrence came in his freshman and junior seasons, when he racked up 36 wins against just 18 losses.
He took over as the starter for the Saints midway through his freshman year, recording a shutout in his first collegiate start in October 2006 while earning second team all-ECAC honors and landing a spot on the ECAC All-Rookie team. Petizian was named ECAC Goaltender of the Week three times during his junior campaign, posted back-to-back shutouts in wins over Union and RPI to help St. Lawrence claim home ice in the 2009 ECAC playoffs, and finished with the third-best GAA in Saints history (2.18) and the sixth-best save percentage (.927).
