Three Saints Honored by League Coaches
Three members of St. Lawrence University's 2009-10 men's ice
hockey team were named ECAC Hockey League all stars in voting by
the league's coaches.
Senior captains Travis Vermeulen and Derek Keller were named to
the third all star team while freshman defenseman George Hughes was
named to the All Rookie Team.
Vermeulen, who has also been nominated for the league's Best
Defensive Forward award, is the leading scorer for the Saints and
heads into Friday's ECAC Playoff opener against Clarkson with 17
goals and 20 assists for 37 points in 35 games. He has seven power
play goals, two shorthanded goals and three game winners this
season. He has played in 140 career games and shattered his
previous career bests in goals, assists and points with his big
senior season. He has 35 career goals and 45 career assists for 80
points and is one of the all-time shorthanded goal scoring leaders
for the Saints with six career shorthanders.
Keller, a nominee for the league's Best Defensive Defenseman
award, also had a break out season offensively in addition to
logging significant minutes defensively. Keller scored nine goals
in 35 games, leading all ECAC defensemen in goal scoring overall,
and finished the regular season with 15 points. He nearly doubled
his career scoring total in his senior season. He has played in 127
career games and has 12 goals and 21 assists for 33 career
points.
Hughes is enjoying an impressive rookie season for the Saints as a
regular on defense and in addition to his defensive skills, has
been a big factor for the Saints offensively. He has five goals and
14 assists for 19 points which ranks fourth among all ECAC
defensemen in scoring and is eighth in rookie scoring.
