Generous to Play in Reading
READING, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League and the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League, today announced that the team has signed former St. Lawrence defenseman Matt Generous.
Last season, Generous (6'3/217) (25), who hails from Cheshire, Connecticut, scored two goals and assisted on 11 others (13 points) and picked up 74 penalty minutes in 61 games with the Portland Pirates of the AHL.
A seventh round pick of the Buffalo Sabres in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, Generous had a stellar four year collegiate career at St. Lawrence University, where he was a four-time member of the ECAC Hockey All-Academic Team. Generous, who will be entering his second full season of pro hockey, signed a one-year entry level contract with the Buffalo Sabres after completing his college career in 2008-09, when he was named the ECAC's Defensive Defenseman of the Year. In 139 total college games with the Saints, Generous registered 56 points (18g-38a) and 133 penalty minutes.
