The Thrashers opened the dialogue with Rich Peverley about a new
contract at the end of last season. It became a reality this week
when the team signed the center to a two-year, $2.6 million
deal.
“I want to be a part of this team going forward,” said
Peverley, whom the Thrashers acquired on waivers from Nashville
last season. “I think we have a good nucleus of players that
will help us go forward and win. I want to be a part of that. ...
It’s been a long road, ups and downs. I just want to prove I
was a good signing and that I can exceed expectations.”
Through Wednesday, the Thrashers were 25-18-2 since Peverley was
claimed. He has anchored the Thrashers' third line, playing with
Colby Armstrong and Evander Kane.
