Allen to Instruct Saints Goaltenders
CANTON, N.Y. -- Andrew Allen, who had a six-year professional
hockey career as a goaltender, will work with St. Lawrence
University's men's hockey team as goaltending coach in 2009-10.
Allen, who works for National Resources Canada in Ottawa and is
the goaltending coach for the Japanese National Program, working
with both men's and women's teams is a 2001 graduate of the
University of Vermont and was the first NCAA goaltender to be
credited with a game-winning goal which came against Harvard in
1998. He had a 3.12 goals against average and a .899 save
percentage in 86 career appearances for the Catamounts and was
named to the ECAC All Rookie Team as a freshman.
He signed with the Florida Panthers following his UVM career and
played two games in the NHL as a backup. He spent the majority of
his six-year pro career in the American and East Coast Hockey
Leagues and was the goalie for the Kelly Cup ECHL Champion Trenton
Titans in 2004-05, playing 47 games with a 2.36 goals against
average and a .916 save percentage and finishing the year with a
30-11-3 record.
He is also goaltending coach at the University of Ottawa and was
formerly the goaltending coach for the Cumberland Grads junior
team. He also works as a private goaltending coach in the Ottawa
area.
Allen, who first worked with the Saint goaltenders at the end of
last season, begins his first full season with the Saints this
year.
