Well-Traveled Rookies Hope to Give Pirates Playoff Boost

PORTLAND — Somewhere near the Vermont-New Hampshire border
on the way to Portland, Matt Generous went numb.
After driving from Canton, N.Y., to Buffalo (for a physical) and
back – almost 10 hours – Generous got back in the car
for an 8-hour drive to start his pro career with the Portland
Pirates.
"It was a whirlwind," said Generous, a defenseman who recently
completed his final season at St. Lawrence University in Canton. "I
did a lot of driving. I didn't keep track of how many miles I put
on my car. At a certain point you just zone out."
